Introduce Indonesia to your students by going on a two-week excursion. This is the first step to the other side of the world! Think Volunteer organizes excursions for schools willing to take on this challenge. This trip is full of educational and challenging activities and excursions, including visits to the most impressive temples of Indonesia, the big Merapi volcano and other interesting places worth seeing. On this excursion, students will also be introduced to Indonesian schools. At school, we will focus on the following subjects: English, economic and political relations between the Netherlands and Indonesia – both current and historical – history, religions, culture and nature. Students will stay with host families in groups of two, to get a real taste of Indonesian life. This way, they will broaden their world view and become aware of the differences between the Netherlands and a developing country.
We will pay attention to a possible culture shock students may go through, as well as their experiences. Additionally, part of this excursion will be devoted to assisting a volunteer project in one of the slums of Yogyakarta. Volunteer work for social projects in a foreign country is becoming increasingly popular among young people. It is advertised a lot and often knowledge and experience are not required, which means it is not always beneficial to the vulnerable target groups. Volunteer work can be improved in several areas and Think Volunteer pays close attention to this subject. A one-day workshop will prepare the students for possible work as volunteers in the future. Think Volunteer has devised a suitable travel programme for you, but it is possible to accommodate your wishes. Together we will compile a tailor-made programme to give you an unforgettable journey!

What can you expect from us?
About a month before departure, we will schedule a preparation day. On this day, you will meet the other people taking part in this voyage of discovery. We will give you tips and additional information that you need for the trip. Of course we are happy to answer any questions you might have.
It’s time to pack your suitcase! The students and teachers will meet each other at the airport in the Netherlands and check in together for the flight to Jakarta. Let the adventure begin! From Jakarta we will fly to Yogyakarta where we will stay for two weeks. Our team in Indonesia is ready at the airport to collect you and the other participants. Upon arrival you will receive important phone numbers from our team, so you can always reach someone if needed. Note: it is possible that we won’t accompany you on the actual flight from the Netherlands to Indonesia. But there are counselors on the airport in the Netherlands to guide you and help you check in. In Indonesia, our team will be ready to welcome you.
You will stay with the group in a hostel approved by us. If there are too many participants, the group will be divided in two and put in two different hostels.
During the trip
All activities and excursions are included in the price. Be sure to take enough pocket money with you for your days off and the extras that you want to buy and do. The full program is led by professional Dutch / local counselors and drivers.
